The black dresses and suits, in the light of resistance against Hollywood's sexual abuse, have officially colored the first stop of the 2018 awards season: the 75th annual Golden Globe Awards. Over 28 movies and 32 shows produced in 2017, plus 70 actors nominated in the ceremony battled for award wins, across 24 categories consisting of 13 movie categories of motion picture, acting, and technical origins and 11 TV categories of series and acting origins.

The eyes for the coveted award race were focused on The Shape of Water, Guillermo del Toro's entry which received seven nominations, and was set to repeat last year's clean sweep feat done by La La Land with the contention coming from the likes of Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri and The Post. The Comedy/Musical race also saw a rivalry between Lady Bird and I, Tonya with surprise nominee Get Out having a shot at award wins despite unorthodox categorization. In the television category on the other hand, Big Little Lies and The Handmaid's Tale were set to translate their Emmy success into Golden Globe wins as a new batch of Comedy names like Netflix's GLOW and Amazon's The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel try their luck to win the coveted trophy.

Next stop, the 23rd Critics' Choice Awards, coming in four days! The Shape of Water is set to redeem its loss with its 14 nominations with Three Billboards gunning for another prestige win before the Oscars, and Lady Bird about to have a go in terms of being the best in the Comedy category. The award will also test whether BLL, Handmaids, and Mrs. Maisel will also be worthy of the critics' wins. See you next post!

P.S.: The Fashion Law wrote an interesting post that also pertains both the black dress and Time's Up movements I talked above. You can consider reading it here.
